Our Crowdfunding Groups
The coronavirus has been a heartbreaking ordeal for our nation, and Ole Miss’ 371 student-athletes are not immune to the pandemic. In addition to being uprooted from their Oxford homes and having many of their sports seasons canceled, the crisis has created financial troubles and even some have seen their family members infected with the virus.
The strength and generosity of Rebel Nation has been evident during these difficult times, as many of you have contacted us seeking opportunities to help our student-athletes. In response to your kindness, the Fins Up Fund has been established to support student-athletes that are facing extreme circumstances as a result of COVID-19.
Money raised will go directly to assisting with medical bills and other necessary expenses resulting from an illness to either the student-athlete or his/her family member(s). Other examples of expenses could include groceries, toiletries, academic supplies for online classes, etc.
NCAA regulations permitting the Fins Up Fund are documented below. Thank you for supporting our Rebels, and we look forward to being together on campus this fall.
16.11.1.7 Miscellaneous Benefits. [A] An institution may provide or arrange for the following benefits for a student-athlete: [R] (Adopted: 4/26/01, Revised: 4/24/03 effective 8/1/03, 4/13/09, 4/26/12, 1/19/13 effective 8/1/13, 8/7/14) (g) Fundraisers for student-athletes (or their family members) under the following extreme circumstances:
(1) Extreme circumstances should be extraordinary in the result of events beyond the student-athlete's control (e.g., life-threatening illness, natural disaster);
(2) The proceeds must be designated for a specific purpose (e.g., payment of medical bills, purchase of medical equipment, replacement of items lost in a fire, etc.)
(3) The proceeds may be given directly to the beneficiaries, with receipt kept on file by the institution, which must include the amount of expenses incurred and the total amount received; and
(4) The excess proceeds must be given to a not-for-profit organization with the receipt kept on file by the institution.
