Sponsor a basket of Thanksgiving groceries for Ole Miss community members who make campus feel like home! Associated Student Body ASB volunteers gathered to pack more than 200 Thanksgiving groceries "baskets" last year. With your help, they aim to serve even more Ole Miss families this year. Help the Associated Student Body Support Ole Miss Families Thanksgiving is a time to gather around the table, share a meal and express gratitude for the people who make a difference in our lives. At the University of Mississippi, the Associated Student Body is committed to putting that gratitude into action by giving back to the staff members who work every day to strengthen the Ole Miss experience. Adopt-a-Basket is an annual Thanksgiving donation drive led by ASB to provide groceries for a complete Thanksgiving meal to University of Mississippi staff members and their families. Through the initiative, Ole Miss students, student organizations, alumni and members of the Oxford community can come together to sponsor a Thanksgiving basket and show appreciation for the people who make our campus feel like home. From maintaining campus facilities and supporting students to working in dining halls, offices and countless other roles, university staff members are an essential part of the Ole Miss community. Their contributions often happen behind the scenes, but their impact is felt by students every day. Adopt-a-Basket gives students a meaningful opportunity to recognize that work and say thank you. Each basket provides the ingredients for a complete Thanksgiving meal, including traditional sides and other holiday staples. Rather than simply collecting individual food items, ASB’s goal is to provide families with everything they need to enjoy a Thanksgiving meal together. The initiative is powered by the Ole Miss community. ASB coordinates the drive and works with student organizations and campus partners to adopt baskets, collect donations and expand the program’s reach. By bringing together students and supporters, ASB hopes to ensure that as many staff members and their families as possible can experience the joy and comfort of a Thanksgiving meal. Adopt-a-Basket is about more than providing food. It is about fostering a culture of gratitude at Ole Miss and recognizing the people whose dedication makes our university stronger. Every basket serves as a tangible reminder to a staff member that their hard work is valued and appreciated by the students they serve. Help provide essential technology for students in need! We're buying an additional 60 laptops to lend to students to meet the demand for this crucial program. Student Affairs Ole Miss students often use their personal laptops in all classes; from the humanities to engineering classrooms like this one. The first year of the Hotty Toddy Tech Pass, the laptop loan program for Ole Miss students in need, was a huge success. Over the fall 2025 and spring 2026 semesters, 60 students were able to access laptops to support coursework, communication and overall academic success. But just as many students who applied for this essential program were left on the waiting list. That's why we need your help! The Office of Information Technology and Center for Inclusion and Cross Cultural Engagement launched the program last year in a collaborative effort by faculty and staff members. The initial idea, however, came from a student who watched their peers consistently struggle to access the equipment they needed to succeed in class. That student's care for their fellow classmates became Hotty Toddy Tech Pass. Students apply online for Hotty Toddy Tech Pass and, when approved, can check out a laptop for the semester. The program began with 25 laptops, but demand quickly exceeded supply. In spring 2026, HTTP offered 40 total laptops. All 60 students who benefited from the program returned the laptops in good condition, demonstrating strong student accountability. "This program allowed me to complete much of my homework in an easy and convenient way," said one of the HTTP students. Others praised the ease of the application process and the quality of the equipment offered. Last year, 60 students who applied did not get off the waiting list. This year, the Office of Information Technology and the CICCE have a goal to buy 60 new laptops before the fall semester begins, bringing HTTP's total to 100 available laptops. This is where you come in. Each new laptop costs $800. But there are other costs, too. Software, insurance and repairs when needed will add to HTTP's operating costs. To make sure the Hotty Toddy Tech Pass meets the needs of our students, we're reaching out to donors like you for support! The new academic year starts soon. UMatter The Lyceum Locker is a school supply closet established in 2021 to support students who have financial needs. Ole Miss students visit this resource and choose school supplies required for their classes – a calculator, a notebook, a test Scantron and more – discreetly, for free, with no questions asked. Classes often require students to have several different supplies to be successful – which can get expensive! All students committed to earning their college degrees deserve to be equipped with the tools they need to do their best. With your help, we’ll keep our shelves stocked to serve these conscientious students with few resources. UM alumna Kayla VonBurg (BA 19, MA 21) is one member of the team leading the campaign to help address this need among the Ole Miss student body. “We know that students with high test scores from low-income households are less likely to graduate from college than students with low test scores from high-income households,” VonBurg said. “Somewhere along the line, these students aren’t getting the support they need. The mission of the Lyceum Locker is to help bridge that gap.” To help ensure that all students at the University of Mississippi have the tools to succeed, we invite every member of the Ole Miss family to contribute to this worthy cause and support our students. Pay tribute to the ambition and dreams of a beloved Ole Miss student with a gift to the Carnesha Nelson Memorial Scholarship. School of Applied Sciences Raymond Wade and Ryan Upshaw The Carnesha Nelson Memorial Scholarship in the School of Applied Sciences will pay tribute to the ambition and dreams of its namesake by providing students with the opportunity to pursue an education and accomplish great things through service to others. Nelson’s life was tragically cut short in 2004 after her sophomore year at the University of Mississippi. She had been an honor student at Moss Point High School and had continued to achieve academic excellence in her collegiate career. A criminal justice major, she had earned the Griffin Award for Perseverance as part of UM’s Steps to Success program, which required a high GPA and commitment. After Nelson passed away, her parents and family friends provided the initial gifts to begin a scholarship fund in her name. Today, her classmates and friends are leading the effort to build on the Carnesha Nelson Memorial Scholarship and celebrate her life and impact at the university she loved. “Funding this scholarship is a way for many of us who loved her, appreciated her and respected her to remember her,” said Raymond Wade (BA 06, MA 08), a childhood friend of Nelson’s who was her classmate from elementary school through Ole Miss. “There are many other students who come to Ole Miss with aspirations such as hers. Due to her untimely passing, she was unable to reach the goals she set for herself. “I firmly believe that having the scholarship available at the university will provide others like Carnesha the opportunity to get the education that they desire, to go on and do great things and to serve others as she wanted to do,” he said. Wade and fellow Moss Point High School graduate and UM alumnus Ryan Upshaw (BA 06, MA 08, Ed.D. 19) are leading the scholarship campaign and encourage everyone – even those who never knew Nelson – to join this worthy cause. Nelson was a special person, Upshaw said: friendly, smart, driven to succeed and inspired to help others. “Carnesha’s life was taken too early,” said Upshaw, who worked in UM administration for many years before becoming the Chief Diversity Officer of Jackson Preparatory School. “We want to make sure her memory is preserved here at the university through a scholarship in the School of Applied Sciences.” Wade, who is now a marketing executive in Nashville, said that after all these years, he’s pleased to have the opportunity for everyone to celebrate the life and accomplishments of his friend through this scholarship campaign. “Even though she was only with us a short time, she left an impact, both in Moss Point and at the university,” Wade said. “Having something here that continues to memorialize her and her commitment to others and her commitment to getting a quality education, that’s meaningful. And that’s something I hope we can all be part of.” Students awarded the Carnesha Nelson Memorial Scholarship will pursue studies in the School of Applied Sciences, which has eight departments or programs.

Help honor the late Oscar R. Pope, creator, mentor, friend and a revelatory journalism alumnus, by contributing to a scholarship benefiting SJNM students. School of Journalism and New Media UM Development Oscar Pope (seated, center) had worked hard to achieve success at Turner Broadcasting, where he worked as the marketing director for the NBA on TNT at just 32 years old. Oscar R. Pope, creator, mentor, friend and a revelatory alum of the University of Mississippi School of Journalism and New Media, passed away unexpectedly in June at the age of 32. A 2010 UM graduate with two bachelor’s degrees in broadcast journalism and graphic design, Oscar had said that he always wanted to create meaningful content that both defined culture and connected people. During his time at Ole Miss, Pope was a production manager for Rebel Radio and a news anchor for NewsWatch. His artwork was featured in the Mississippi Collegiate Art Competition Exhibit. His success as a student led him to Atlanta, where he worked in advertising and marketing for various firms before joining Turner Broadcasting as the marketing coordinator for the NBA on TNT and NBA TV. His work on “Inside the NBA” and “NBA Roadshow,” and developing NBA legend Charles Barkley’s “Guarantee Button” distinguished his career at Turner. Oscar, his brother Shaun, and mother Beverly Pope On his personal website, Oscar, a native of Terry, Mississippi, described himself as “a sports marketer by title, and storyteller by trade and passion. And by purpose, I’m an amplifier of underrepresented voices.” To honor his life and legacy, his friends and loved ones have established the Oscar Pope Memorial Scholarship to benefit future School of Journalism and New Media students majoring in Integrated Marketing Communications. “Oscar was a great friend and graduate of our school,” said Debora Wenger, the interim dean of the School of Journalism and New Media. “Throughout his time here, he played a transformative role, whether it was in producing incredible creative content or making connections between so many people of so many different backgrounds. You could always count on Oscar to be a light, whether it was here at the University of Mississippi or in his career at Turner Broadcasting.” The purpose of the Oscar Pope Memorial Scholarship is to provide a transformative experience to students, like Oscar, who are passionate about marketing and communications. In an alumni profile published more than a year ago, Oscar said he approached his time at the University of Mississippi with purpose. “I just treated college like an opportunity to experience all the things I wanted to experience, and I think that all those things have to come together to work for my greater good,” he said. The Oscar Pope Memorial Scholarship fulfills that purpose for a new generation of students. Integrated Marketing Communications is one of the most popular majors at the University of Mississippi. IMC students learn how to create and use messaging strategically within today's rapidly changing social and digital media landscape, a landscape in which Oscar excelled. “No matter how far he traveled, Oscar always kept the University of Mississippi and the School of Journalism and New Media in his heart,” Wenger said. “It didn’t matter whether he was making connections with alumni or meeting new friends that he could bring into our family. Honor the legacy of an amazing theatre arts educator by investing in the next generation of performers! The Kellum Family In her lifetime, Helen Ward Kellum had a generational impact on the Theatre Arts program at the University of Mississippi and for thousands of children in Oxford who participated in her summer theater workshops. Thanks to the Helen Ward Kellum Legacy Award for Excellence in Theatre Arts, her incredible impact continues even now, nearly 15 years after she passed away. In 2020, Glenn Kellum, Gloria Kellum and other members of the Kellum family and friends established an endowment intended to honor the memory of Helen Ward Kellum, a beloved figure in Oxford and at Ole Miss known for her work as an associate professor of speech and theatre and as the director of Oxford's Summer Showcase plays – often musicals – that involved UM students, local children and the entire community. The Helen Ward Kellum Legacy Award provides funding for students to travel around the country to further their education and careers. This year, two students benefited from the award: Zion Sims of Saltillo, Mississippi, and Ward Sikma of Water Valley, Mississippi. Both Sims and Sikma are pursuing Bachelor of Fine Arts degrees in Theatre Arts with emphases in Acting for Stage and Screen. "The Helen Kellum endowment has been such an extraordinary aid to me in my academic endeavors," Sims said. "Thanks to this scholarship, I’m going to be able to go on our senior trip this year to New York." Students also can use the award to pursue additional classes and career opportunities. "Being able to receive this scholarship has opened so many doors for me as a performer," Sikma said. "It has given me the opportunity to take more theater classes, more design classes, more acting classes, which allow me to grow as an artist and enable me to perfect and hone my craft." The nature of the work that Theatre Arts students do requires them to travel to conferences, showcases and large audition calls around the country. For many, the financial burdens that this creates can be overwhelming. The Kellum Legacy Award is such an amazing resource for students that the Kellum family and the leadership of the Department of Theatre and Film want to expand its impact – and that's where you come in! Glenn and Helen Ward Kellum John Maxwell, the world-renowned performer and writer famous for his one-man play, "Oh, Mr. Faulkner, Do You Write?" based on the life of Noble Laureate William Faulkner, said he considers meeting and learning from Helen Ward Kellum the "starting point" of his theater career. Maxwell earned a master's degree in theatre from Ole Miss in 1968. "She really took me into her fold," Maxwell said of Kellum. "She was my first director, really. I wasn't going to major in theater at all until I met her and had a class under her and began to see what the theater department was like here at Ole Miss. She was the first person to open her hands to me. She was so creative .... She had such a vision." Helen Ward Kellum's son, David Kellum, who is famous to all Ole Miss sports fans as the voice of the Rebels, said his mother was "passionate about maximizing students' abilities and helping them reach their potential." "So to continue that passion," Kellum said, "if you could give to this endowment, it will help students not only be able to make that trip and expose themselves to a level that could continue to fuel that dream, or help them even locally here at Ole Miss, we encourage you to do so." Honor the life of an amazing young woman by ensuring the opportunities she enjoyed at Ole Miss are available to other bright young students. The life of one of the university’s most talented young alumnae is being remembered with an Ole Miss Women’s Council Leadership Fund named in her honor. Jennifer Lawrence Bordelon, 35, passed away on June 8, leaving behind her husband of 10 years, James Gerald Bordelon, whom she met at Ole Miss, and their three small sons: Theodore James Bordelon, 4, Henry Fitzgerald Bordelon, 2, and Louis Lawrence Bordelon, 11 months. A star student her entire life, Jen enrolled at the University of Mississippi in the fall of 2005 as an Ole Miss Women’s Council Scholar and a Sally McDonnell Barksdale Honors College Scholar. Jen achieved much during her time at the university, including being voted Miss Ole Miss and elected Kappa Delta sorority president. Jen Lawrence Bordelon points out her brick in the Walk of Fame. Jen was Miss Ole Miss in 2009. Jen’s quest for knowledge had no end. After she graduated from Ole Miss, Jen completed challenging postgraduate work with the Mississippi Teacher Corps in Tunica, Mississippi. Later, she earned a juris doctor degree from Campbell University School of Law and worked as a political consultant and strategist. Jen was accomplished, radiant and inspiring, earning many accolades, degrees and awards in her young life. Today, we have a chance to honor this amazing young woman by ensuring the opportunities she enjoyed at Ole Miss are available to other bright young students. The Jennifer Lawrence Bordelon Leadership Fund will honor her life and legacy in perpetuity and will provide income for operating the leadership-mentorship aspect of the OMWC Scholarship program — a part of the scholarship Jen benefited from. Young alumnus Jacques Allain died tragically in 2022. To honor his memory, his family has established a scholarship to benefit future Business School students. The Allain Family In the weeks after the unexpected death of 25-year-old Jacques Allain last summer, his parents, Jeanne and Moe Allain, and his younger sister, Camille, attempted to heal by recalling a lifetime of happy memories with him. Many of those memories, they said, were spending time with Jacques during his years at the University of Mississippi. Jacques, a 2020 graduate of the Ole Miss School of Business Administration from Houston, Texas, loved his time on campus and enjoyed sharing his life here with his family. The Allain family felt the best way to honor Jacques’ life would be to establish a scholarship in his name at the school he loved. “Whether we were attending an Ole Miss football or baseball game or gathering for a meal on the Square, it was always a good time,” Moe Allain said. “Jacques wanted to be great in his field, and I thought establishing a scholarship would be one of the best ways to remember him and honor his legacy forever.” The Jacques Allain Memorial Scholarship will be awarded to freshmen from Texas or Louisiana enrolled in the business school and majoring in business administration or finance, the fields that Jacques pursued during his time at Ole Miss. The Allain family invites everyone who knew Jacques to join them in making a gift to the scholarship endowment to ensure that his legacy at the university lives on. Jacques had his eyes on Ole Miss from the first day he and his family visited for a tour. As a Louisiana native and Louisiana State University alumnus, Moe Allain wanted to steer his son in the direction of his alma mater, but his efforts were to no avail. As they drove back home to Houston, Jacques said he was sold on Ole Miss. “He fell in love with the campus and the people, and we didn’t visit any other schools after that,” his father recalled. While Jacques was a student at Ole Miss, his younger sister, Camille, attended the University of Arkansas. They spent several weekends taking turns visiting each other’s campuses, sharing SEC traditions they had learned and indulging in one another’s favorite local food spots. Jacques, a member of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity, was memorialized by his fraternity brothers and friends as a dedicated, caring person who would drop everything for a friend in need. “It didn’t matter if his friend called him up at 2 o’clock in the morning. We heard a lot of those stories when we were doing his Celebration of Life,” Moe Allain said. “There were some things we didn’t know about. We didn’t know how good of a friend he was until his friends told us. That was important for us to hear.” Alpha Tau Omega served as a gateway for Allain to volunteer in the local community, mentoring students at Lafayette and Oxford high schools through the nonprofit group Moneythink. He was a member of the Financiers Club through the business school, majoring in managerial finance and earning a Bachelor of Business Administration degree. Post-graduation, Jacques Allain continued to be entrenched in the world of finance, with his last position as a financial analyst for Sysco, a wholesale restaurant food distributor. He was excited by the role, regularly participating in calls with the CFO of the multinational company, his parents said. Jacques knew how to have fun but equally took his studies seriously, his father said. For the scholarship, his parents hope to see it awarded to students who share similar qualities and have an interest in the financial field. “We’re hoping that the award winners embrace the field, pay it forward and also do some mentoring,” Moe Allain said. “We really want them to make a mark in that field in the future.” By establishing the Jacques Allain Memorial Scholarship Endowment, the Allain family turned their tragedy into a way to help many deserving banking and finance students for years to come. Empowering students to thrive The William Magee Center for AOD and Wellness Education transforms students’ lives by providing education, intervention, and support services to enhance well-being and foster success at the University of Mississippi. Every gift strengthens student well-being. Since the William Magee Center opened its doors in 2019, hundreds of individuals have donated to our cause. This has allowed us to hire additional staff, provide access to naloxone and fentanyl test strips, hand out free water and host recovery tailgates in the Grove, and increase the number of peer educators who help engage students in wellness education. Contributions of any size help us maintain our current programs and build new student-centered wellness initiatives. With your help, we can reach even more students. The William Magee Center for AOD and Wellness Education aims to: Enhance wellness programming and education across campus, working collaboratively with faculty, staff, and other departments. Facilitate evidence-based interventions for alcohol, substance use, and other addictive behaviors like gambling. Provide support via our Collegiate Recovery Community to any student who is seeking recovery from alcohol or other substances Increase campus access to resources like the life-saving opioid overdose reversal drug naloxone. To support our mission for years to come, please give and share this project with others. William Magee entered Ole Miss in 2008 and was a high-achieving student in the Sally McDonnell Barksdale Honors College and the Croft Institute for International Studies. He was a member of the Ole Miss Men’s Track team, the SEC academic honor roll and Sigma Nu fraternity. William also experienced anxiety, using alcohol and drugs initially to help him fit in and be more comfortable in social situations. He planned to stop using once he graduated. In his senior year, William realized he needed help, which led to him seeking substance use disorder treatment after he graduated from Ole Miss. After a year of treatment and meeting his recovery goals, he began working in Nashville with a plan to attend law school. Like many people who seek recovery, William experienced a recurrence of substance use. Tragically, this resulted in an accidental overdose that ended his life. William hoped to one day help others overcome struggles with substance use. The William Magee Center for AOD and Wellness Education was named in his honor with the goal of carrying out William’s legacy of helping others.
