When the joyous graduation celebration begins in The Grove on May 9, the seniors in the University of Mississippi’s Class of 2015 want to ensure that they are leaving an enduring legacy. This group of talented students have collectively made an array of outstanding achievements since becoming members of the Ole Miss family. Not only have they committed themselves to excellence in every area but they also have made service a priority – service to the Oxford-University community, to their hometown communities and to the larger world.

Senior Class Gift

College classes traditionally come together during their final year to reflect on their desire to leave the University better than when they first chose their new college home. A class gift reflects members’ recognition of what the University has meant and will continue to mean to their lives. Members of the Class of 2015 have announced their Legacy Gift initiative, with a goal of attracting funds for a scholarship to honor the University’s dedicated and beloved Chancellor, Dr. Daniel W. Jones, as well as to expand opportunities for future student leaders.

Applaud Chancellor Dan Jones

Since his 2009 appointment, Chancellor Jones has provided excellent leadership, promoting greatness in academics and athletics, as well as encouraging respect and diversity across campus. His dedication to and stewardship of the University has truly inspired students, alumni and friends, faculty, and staff. Student enrollment has soared 26 percent, with students from all 50 states and 93 countries a part of the student body. Private gifts to academics and athletics have increased a stunning 70 percent during the Chancellor’s tenure.

Unprecedented Growth & Progress

Since members of the Class of 2015 stepped onto campus, there has been tremendous expansion and progress at the University. The Chronicle of Higher Education named UM as the nation's 13th-fastest growing university in its Almanac of Higher Education 2014. Included have been extensive construction and renovation projects, such as new residential halls, additional classroom space, Robert C. Khayat Law Center, Jackson Avenue Center, the campus’ first parking garage and state-of-the-art athletics facilities. The Senior Class is grateful for Dr. Jones’ efforts to strengthen the “Ole Miss experience” and the unique environment the Ole Miss Family cherishes.

Hotty Toddy: It’s About Service

One of the most compelling messages Chancellor Jones has taught is “service before self.” Just recently, more than 3,000 students volunteered for the fifth annual Ole Miss Big Event, a day of service that gives students the opportunity to say “thank you” to the greater Oxford-Lafayette County community. The Class of 2015 will carry forward this idea of service through this scholarship in Dr. Jones’ name, assisting students who have servant-leader qualities. The idea is that recipients will make contributions, pass on the value of service and positively impact the world.

We Stand With Dan – Will You Join Us?

Join the Class of 2015 today in funding this scholarship, which will honor Chancellor Jones and help students with college expenses. Gifts of all sizes will build this scholarship fund and inspire students to become positive influences – just as Chancellor Jones has done. The Class of 2015 will be the final one to graduate during Chancellor Jones’ tenure. 

Graduation May 9, 2015

The Class of 2015 would love to announce to Chancellor Jones at commencement exercises that his legacy scholarship has been fully endowed and awardable prior to the end of his tenure. The Class of 2015 members also want to reach the highest senior class participation rate in Ole Miss history. Seniors, whether you can give $15 for your Class of '15, or any amount, it's your participation that is most important. But the Senior Class cannot succeed in realizing this goal alone. When seniors move their tassels and have those diplomas in hand, they will be thinking of alumni and friends who graciously helped make this Legacy Gift a reality. Uniting and giving – that’s what the Ole Miss Family is all about!
