Columns Society Rhythm Pax

Bring the Healing Power of Music to Blair E. Batson Children's Hospital

Photo provided by Team Luke

When you give to the Columns Society Rhythm Pax philanthropy effort, you're supporting much more than some of UM's top students. You're contributing to the health and happiness of children fighting serious illnesses at Blair E. Batson Children's Hospital.

Researchers at Johns Hopkins found that music works in concert with medicine to augment healing. In addition, making music with their families can bring happiness at a time when sick children need it most.

For years now, the students of the Columns Society have committed themselves to these children by bringing gifts of musical instruments to their hospital rooms.

Your gifts can support this uplifting work!

What is a Rhythm Pax?

Each Rhythm Pax is a canvas sack filled with age-appropriate percussion instruments, as well as other music-related items. Each bag includes a Kalimba (a thumb piano), sound shapes, rain sticks, bells, triangles, hand bells, Blue Man/Stomp DVD, finger drum, Team Luke medal, Team Luke informational DVD and an iTunes gift card.

About Blair E. Batson Children's Hospital

Batson Children’s Hospital on the University of Mississippi Medical Center campus, which is part of the University of Mississippi, is the only medical facility in the state devoted exclusively to the care and treatment of sick and injured children and adolescents. The hospital averages 9,000 admissions a year, and nearly 80,000 children are treated in its clinics and emergency room annually. Patients come from all of Mississippi’s 82 counties to receive comprehensive medical care for everything from common childhood illnesses to serious trauma and life-threatening or chronic illnesses.

Batson Children's Hospital provides care in more than 30 specialty areas, including newborn medicine, pediatric cardiology, neurology and surgery. It houses the state’s only pediatric intensive care unit and emergency department, along with Mississippi's only pediatric treatment programs for cancer, cystic fibrosis, sickle cell anemia, congenital heart defects and more.

Construction is nearing completion on a new $180 million pediatrics tower adjacent to Batson Children’s Hospital, further expanding top-tier medical care for Mississippi’s youngest citizens when it opens later this year.

Please support our philanthropic efforts to raise funds to provide Rhythm Pax to patients of Blair E. Batson Children's Hospital!
