The purpose of the new Rebel Retention Fund is simple: helping our students remain in school following unforeseen hardships. This need is especially felt during the COVID-19 pandemic, given lost jobs and unexpected medical costs.
The fund can accomplish this goal by removing modest financial barriers preventing current students from re-enrolling this fall at the University of Mississippi. The amounts would typically be up to $500, but not more than $1,000 of one-time assistance.
By supporting the Rebel Retention Fund, you help get Ole Miss students over a financial hurdle. These obstacles, often limited in size, prevent them from continuing on their transformative journey to Commencement and gaining the knowledge and skills needed to enhance their lives and communities.
The fund will allow UM Financial Aid representatives to provide micro-grants to eligible/qualified students unable to return to the University due to outstanding tuition and/or fees. Eligibility will be determined by whether a student has taken advantage of all other financial aid opportunities. Priority for these grants will be given to upperclassmen, who are making satisfactory academic progress toward degrees.

This year’s first-year retention rate at Ole Miss was a record high 86.8%. With the Rebel Retention Fund, we are able to double our efforts and commitment to our students. Your investment allows us to keep our Rebels on track to graduation.
Data shows if students drops out for even for a single semester, they have only a 30% chance of returning to complete their degrees. Our students deserve better than those odds and we are committed to giving them the necessary resources to graduate. Your investment helps make sure they stay on track.
This year, a record 5,000+ students graduated (December 2019 and May and August 2020 candidates). With your support, we can increase those numbers with much-needed assistance. We can watch with pride as future graduates cross the stage at Commencement. Please give now!
Sometimes $500 may be all that stands in the way of a student enrolling for the fall semester. When financial aid options have been maxed out, the Rebel Retention Fund will cover the remaining balances in Bursar accounts, allowing qualifying students to continue pursuing their education.
