Help Ole Miss Athletics Feed The Sip
In Mississippi, there are more than 559,000 people facing hunger. Of them, more than 160,000, or one in four, are children. As part of the Stronger Together MS Initiative, Ole Miss Athletics is on a mission to support those who are struggling with hunger throughout our adopted community of Quitman County and the surrounding areas. We are inviting you to help us “Feed The Sip,” as we roll out our new community engagement.
Stronger Together MS Initiative
Social Responsibility and Engagement
Fourteen collegiate athletics programs throughout Mississippi united in support of togetherness, diversity and equality. The Stronger Together MS Initiative was created to implement action-based events and programming, collaborate on community engagement projects and use our respective platforms to amplify the voices of underrepresented populations and marginalized groups in the state. The initiative pillars are:
- Food Sustainability
- Many Mississippians suffer from "food instability" and are limited in their access to a variety of healthy food options.
- Literacy (K-3rd grade)
- Research shows that students who do not read proficiently by the end of third grade are four times more likely to drop out of high school than their proficient readers.
- Financial Literacy (K-7th grade)
- A 2019 study states that increasing efforts to promote research-based financial education in school and the workplace is a key solution to achieve financial well-being among people of color.
- Student- Athlete Activism and Social Justice
- The Stronger Together MS Initiative seeks to educate and empower student-athletes to implement best practices and positive change strategies through facilitated conversations and training.
