Dear Ole Miss Family,
Mr. and Miss Ole Miss spend time each year developing ways to give back to our University. We want to do something that will positively impact the greatest number of students on our campus. Both of our campaigns for Mr. and Miss Ole Miss were centered around the Ole Miss family and investing in one another at a deeper level.
After hearing the late William Magee's story and the purpose of this center (opening in the 2018-2019 academic year), it was clear that being a small part of helping the William Magee Center for Wellness Education (artist's rendering below) come to life would be the best way to achieve our goal. You can read William's story by visiting the Oxford Eagle website: https://www.oxfordeagle.com/2016/08/28/my-son-williams-story-shared-to-help-others/.
At the same time, the three Senior Class Officers were trying to determine what they could do to give back to the University from the Class of 2018. After much thought, they decided raising money and awareness for the William Magee Center for Wellness Education was the best decision for several reasons.
First, they believe that giving to this cause will leave the University a better place than before. Second, they know that we all have seen and experienced heartbreaking incidents in our time at the University, and do not want to continue to see this happen to the people and students of our community.
The Senior Class Officers also believe the William Magee Center for Wellness Education is the type of facility that should be available to struggling students on every college campus. In an effort to promote this facility and raise as much money as possible, the Senior Class Officers have partnered with the Mr. and Miss Ole Miss campaign.
Wellness is a common denominator that affects every student in one way or another, and we realize that wellness education is a real need here at Ole Miss. We want to do something that will engage students with a center that will promote a holistic approach to wellness. To that end we have started this Ignite fundraising campaign with the goal of student participation and awareness.
Let’s attract a minimum of 1,000 student donors to contribute to this campaign, demonstrating a common understanding and respect for one another's wellness. It does not matter if you have $5 or $10 — this is about the Ole Miss student body taking ownership of a resource that is going to directly impact current and future students.
Be a part of creating an environment where wellness is celebrated and where we are more mindful of one another. Investing in this project will bring about incredible benefits for our student body and for generations to come. We hope that you will join this Ignite campaign to signify your support for the Ole Miss family.
If we meet our goal of 1,000 participants, this will be the largest-ever student-based Ignite campaign at Ole Miss. We hope to encourage everyone to lean in and promote wellness opportunities for all.
Ole Miss family, please join us as we take ownership in the William Magee Center for Wellness Education and the transformative role it can play on our campus for years to come!
