The University of Mississippi Health, Exercise Science and Recreation Management Department has partnered with National AMBUCS Inc., a 501(c)(3) organization, to produce this annual event, benefiting Veterans with disabilities. The event, a fun race, honors the Veterans who will receive one. Participating teams will race an AmTryke (adaptive tricycle) around The Circle at Ole Miss, competing to complete 75 laps in the fastest time. Every $850.00 raised buys an AmTryke, which will be donated to a disabled Veteran at the end of the race. We have received requests for additional AmTryke donations. Please, consider supporting this event so we can give an AmTryke to every Veteran in need.
For the second annual AmTrykes in Action Race
When: October 2, 2016, at 3:00 p.m.
Where: The Circle on the Ole Miss campus
We're looking for 8-person teams to register and compete in the relay race. Your $100 team registration fee goes toward the purchase of an AmTryke. In addition to the race, you'll enjoy food and refreshments, opportunities to meet the Veterans receiving the AmTrykes and a raffle for Ole Miss T-shirts, a piece of turf from Vaught-Hemingway Stadium, a Burt's Bees basket, a portable grill and more!
By partnering with AMBUCS, we are able to provide AmTrykes to local veterans and military families. We are also able to purchase the AmTrykes for $850 which is a 40% discount from the retail price of $1,200. Our goal is to raise enough money to purchase and donate 10 AmTrykes. All proceeds go toward the purchase of an AmTryke.
To reach our goal, we need your support.
AmTryke, LLC is fully owned and operated by National AMBUCS, Inc., a nationwide nonprofit charity dedicated to creating mobility and independence for people with disabilities. AMBUCS believes the fun and freedom of riding your own bike is something everyone should have the opportunity to enjoy. People who are unable to operate a traditional bike can now share this experience, thanks to the AmTryke therapeutic tricycle.
Riders with disabilities often struggle to bring a bicycle up to speed quickly enough to stay upright. The AmTryke operates from a tricycle platform to help a rider feel balanced and secure. AmTryke riders will increase cardio function, build strength and experience the outdoors in a new way, all of which can impact overall health and fitness. Not to mention the opportunity to ride with family and friends! AmTrykes can be hand- or foot-powered and provide the stability and support often required for a veteran to return to bike riding.
My AmTryke
I am SFC Collins (retired). I received my tryke about a year ago. It has really been a blessing to me because I have lower back problems. I can ride it with ease and it enables me to get some leg strengthening and cardio without much pressure on my back. I have always loved riding bikes but never thought I would be able to ride again because of the angle and uncomfortable position the bikes would have me in.
I enjoyed the whole event, meeting you all, the bike race, and Ole Miss.
I will forever be grateful and treasure your gift, making it possible for me to enjoy this sport again.
Eternally grateful,
SFC Collins (retired)

In 2014, 20% of Mississippi Veterans reported a disability. Let's get every veteran an AmTryke!
Did you know that, as of May 2015, there were a total of 1,099,912 men and women serving in our military? Let's show them how much they mean to us.
There are 246 veterans on the Ole Miss campus. Let's show them what the Ole Miss community can do!
220,389. That's the number of Mississippi men and women who have served in the U.S. military, as of 2014.
This level lets us honor all of our military men and women who fought bravely, but unfortunately, did not make it home.
