“Let’s make a memory!” That’s the enthusiastic invitation extended by the University Museum, as community members join in fun art projects and other interesting experiences of Family Activity Days. These events promote enriching opportunities for intergenerational learning, introducing young children to the Museum while they spend quality time with parents and grandparents.
Family Activity Days are hosted two to three times each semester and are often based on themes from special traveling exhibits at the UM Museum. Families enjoy a variety of activities led by the Museum's education team, with refreshments offered, as well.
Participation in Family Activity Days has soared over the last few years. More than 800 children came to the University Museum during Family Activity Days in 2014. Our vision is to continue offering these great events and reach many more area families without any limitations of cost!
Learning about art and culture plays an important role in childhood development, but unfortunately there are costs involved. We don’t want families to worry about having funds to introduce their children to amazing, transformational experiences. Previously, Family Activity Days have cost $5 per family. While that may seem like a small price to pay for a wonderfully entertaining and educational few hours, that cost can prevent many families from taking part. The last few Family Activity Days have been generously supported by the Children's Dental Center, and the Museum staff would like to continue to ensure that no child is ever unable to attend because of cost.
Your contribution – no matter the size – can help the University Museum offer these Family Activity Days at no charge. Your gift will assist in bringing families to the University Museum, enlarging their worlds, and assist the Museum in continually expanding innovative programming.
The projected cost of offering Family Activity Days free to families is $2,000 per year. Our goal is to attract the level of funding needed for three years of Free Family Days – and more! Your generosity can help make these family days accessible for many deserving children and families for years to come.
