Endowed chairs provide salary supplements that help recruit and retain top faculty members to teach Ole Miss students. In our nation’s incredibly competitive higher education community, such salary supplements are needed, particularly at state universities like ours. UM’s enrollment continues to increase, with our faculty responsible for ensuring that all students receive the instruction and mentoring they need to excel, both at Ole Miss and beyond. The Jones Chair will rotate among schools and colleges on the Oxford campus, wherever the faculty need is greatest.

Since our first update we have had 43 more alumni and friends donate an additional $89,310 in the campaign to honor Chancellor Jones. Our campaign has now raised $179,110 from 112 alumni and friends, which is 17% toward our $1 million goal.

The University of Mississippi Foundation Board of Directors has announced a commitment to provide $100,000 to match gifts from alumni and friends. Since our last update we have had 28 more University of Mississippi alumni and friends donate an additional $113,567 in the campaign to honor Chancellor Jones. Our campaign has now raised $292,677 from 140 alumni and friends, and that is 29% toward our $1 million goal.
Stop right where you are. Take a few minutes to reflect on a teacher or professor who made a powerful impact on your life. We want Ole Miss students to be taught by gifted faculty members who prepare students for rewarding careers and lives. Chancellor Jones, a former professor himself, has promoted investments in faculty as a meaningful way to help transform students’ lives. Faculty members have daily interactions with students and devote time to mentor and guide them. In the next couple of years, more than 200 professors must be added to our faculty to meet the needs of a rapidly growing student body.

Kudos! Since our last update, the alumni/friends campaign’s total has reached more than 60 percent of its goal in the Chancellor Jones initiative. The campaign – which honors our outgoing chancellor for his superb contributions – has now raised $605,162 from 186 alumni and friends toward the overall $1 million goal. Your gifts not only pay tribute to Dr. Jones but they also provide crucial faculty support on the Oxford campus.

This time the Oxford campus is energized by critical faculty support pouring in to pay tribute to contributions of Chancellor Dan Jones!
Breaking news! The Gertrude C. Ford Foundation has stepped forward with an amazing $250,000 gift to join alumni and friends, faculty, and staff in honoring Chancellor Jones by building significant faculty support – a top priority he established during his administration. This Jackson, Miss.-based foundation continues to be deeply committed to our academic community as well as to our magnificent cultural hub, the Gertrude C. Ford Center for the Performing Arts. Thank you, Ford Foundation board members, for investing in our University!
