RECAP: The 3rd Annual AmTrykes in Action Race on Saturday, April 21st

April 26, 2018

Hello all! This past weekend was a blast to say the least and we could not have done it without your support.

With the change it date, we were able to host the event under sunny skies and warm temperatures. We had many spectators surrounding the event and had a great media presence there to cover the event details. Our teams were competitive and brought lots of energy to the wonderful cause. Shoutout to the Ole Miss Cycling Club for taking home 1st place for the third year in a row! The Memphis-local Bluegrass band, Grassfire, brought the tunes and helped elevate this event to an entirely new level of fun. By event day, we had raised $5000, enough to send 5 veterans from the Memphis VA home with an AmTryke all of their own. Read more about the veterans who received Trykes on Saturday below and the impact the AmTryke will make on their lives.

Sgt. Oliver Mcghee, from Southaven, MS.  Served in the Navy and Army for a total of 22 years. Wants to use the AmTryke to help with his weight management, cope with PTSD symptoms, and to allow him to engage in cycle with his kids.

Sgt. Ron Powell from Bruce, MS served in the Army for 18 years. Served 1 tour in Iraq and 1 in Dessert Storm. Will utilize this cycle for his chronic pain and to cope with PTSD.

Tracy Parker served in the Army and discharged in 1991. Veteran has had 3 surgeries on his knees and has chronic pain in his back. Veteran will use this cycle to engage in physical exercise in his local community.

Oliver Johnson served in the Army from 1975-79. Veteran had surgery on his left knee in the fall. Will utilize this Tryke to continue rehab for his knee and weight management.

Brandon Miller served in the navy and was honorably discharged in 2007 after serving 8 years. Veteran is from Wall, MS. He will use the AmTryke for weight management and to improve mood. Veteran will also be able to engage in cycling with his family.

We still have about a week to raise $4000 more dollars in donations before May 4th to meet our $10,000 fundraising goal. Please share our webpage to others you feel may be interested in supporting this veteran cause in Oxford, MS and at Ole Miss.

Thank you to all who have helped us along the way!
